The countdown has begun! On Sunday, 30 November 2025, Cape Town will sparkle once again as the 56th annual Festive Lights Switch-On transforms the Grand Parade and Adderley Street into a dazzling celebration of music, joy, and unity.
This year’s theme, “United in Hope,” goes beyond the festive season: it’s a call for togetherness, creativity, and community spirit.
The free, family-friendly event has become one of Cape Town’s most beloved traditions, drawing tens of thousands of residents and visitors for an unforgettable night under the summer sky.
What to Expect
The evening promises an electric mix of entertainment, culture, and connection:
- Star-studded performances across genres before the lights go on
- The much-anticipated switch-on moment with spectacular lasers, pyrotechnics, and video mapping across City Hall
- The return of the “Move and Melody” competition, showcasing Cape Town’s rising stars in dance and vocals
- A brand-new initiative, “Wear the Hope – Share the Light”, where Capetonians are invited to design the festive outfit the Mayor will wear on stage
“The Festive Lights Switch-On is more than just a concert; it’s a space for Capetonians to reconnect, to celebrate our diversity, and to welcome the festive season with hope and joy,” said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
Move With Melody Competition: Entries Open!
Kicking off yesterday, 1 October 2025, the Move With Melody dance contest gives amateur performers of all ages the chance to battle it out for the spotlight.
How to Enter:
- Upload a 1-minute dance video to TikTok, META platforms, or WhatsApp (076 179 7047)
- Tag @CTFestiveLights and use #FLSODance2025
- Groups of 2–10 dancers welcome; all dance styles encouraged
- Deadline: 9 November 2025
Ten finalists will compete live at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre on 15 November, with cash prizes of R10 000, R5 000, and R2 500 up for grabs.
The top three acts will also earn the once-in-a-lifetime chance to perform on the main stage at the Festive Lights Switch-On.
