Metrorail Western Cape has partnered with the South African Navy (SA Navy) to offer a unique train travel experience to the SA Navy Festival 2024 in Simonstown.
Customers will travel in style on the #PeoplesTrain from Cape Town to Simonstown, enjoying breathtaking views along the scenic route.
This year’s festival promises a day of festivities, and Metrorail Western Cape is proud to provide convenient and affordable transportation to this highly anticipated event.
The region will run the trains from Friday, the 04th October until Sunday, the 06th October 2024 from all the corridors to Cape Town, where the customers will connect to Simonstown.
Train tickets will be available from ticket offices for use during off-peak periods (between 09:30 and 14:30).
Metrorail will accept cash only as they don’t have card facilities.
Customers are encouraged to purchase return train tickets to avoid long queues when coming back from the festival.
On Sunday, Metrorail will only run a service from Cape Town via Cape Flats and from Cape Town via the Suburban corridor (the line that passes Observatory, Newlands, and all the way to Simonstown).
The last train from Simonstown – Cape Town will depart at 18:30 on Saturday and Sunday.
Buses will also be available from Fish Hoek and Simonstown station to the naval base, where the festivities will be held.
As the region will be providing additional trains on Saturday and Sunday (05th and 06th October 2024) customers are also encouraged to use the Park and Ride facilities at the following stations, where their cars will be safely guarded whilst they are attending the SA Navy festival:
- Observatory station;
- Heathfield station;
- Kenilworth station;
- Rondebosch station;
- Rosebank station;
- Lakeside station;
- Muizenberg station, and
- St James station
The SA Navy festival is one of the important events in Cape Town. Metrorail Western Cape Acting Regional Manager, Raymond Maseko, said that the collaboration with the SA Navy is an opportunity for Metrorail to raise awareness about some of the People’s Train safety features such as CCTV cameras, priority seating, emergency buttons, announcements of stations, and security staff on-board.
