UPDATE: 7th suspect arrested in connection with AKA’s murder

Published on

A seventh person has been arrested in connection with the murder of rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend, businessman Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane. The suspect was arrested earlier today.

Last night, Kwazulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi announced police  arrested six suspects.

The pair were gunned down outside Wish restaurant in Durban on 10 February 2023.

Mkhwanazi says investigations show that the musician was followed from when he landed at Durban’s King Shaka Airport, to his hotel at Umhlanga and then to the Wish restaurant where he was gunned down.

The seven suspects include the two shooters, two ”spotters” and the alleged mastermind.

Five of the suspects are due to appear in court tomorrow, while two others are still in Eswatini.

This comes after police initially denied that the two arrests in Eswatini was linked to the AKA murder case.

The suspects have not yet been charged with the murders of AKA and Motsoane, as they were detained on other unrelated charges, which include the murders of other people.

Mkhwanazi explained that the strategy the police used was to link the suspects to these other serious crimes, in order to detain them, while investigations into this current case continues.

He says part of the investigation includes establishing the motive for the crime, while more arrests have not been ruled out.
