One of South Africa’s most iconic landmarks, Table Mountain, has taken a major step towards inclusivity with the launch of a new Universal Access Walkway at its summit.

The development, unveiled on Friday by South African National Parks (SANParks) in partnership with the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company, is designed to make the summit accessible to a wider range of visitors.

The walkway allows wheelchair users, people with mobility challenges, and families with prams to explore the mountaintop safely and comfortably, an experience that has historically been limited for many.

SANParks and TMACC say the project reflects a shared commitment to accessibility, dignity, and inclusivity, while promoting universal design at one of the country’s most visited tourist attractions.

The initiative also positions Table Mountain as a leader in inclusive tourism, aligning with global efforts to ensure public spaces are accessible to all.

By improving access to the summit, the new walkway enables more people to independently experience the natural beauty of Table Mountain National Park, reinforcing the importance of equal access to South Africa’s natural heritage.
