A new Clean Up and Recycle Project has been launched in Macassar on Global Recycling Day. The City of Cape Town organised a series of engaging activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness and encouraging recycling within communities on this important day.
City Celebrates Global Recycling Day
Also on the day, spreading joy and awareness was the City’s beloved anti-litter mascot, Bingo. The mascot visited various locations in the Mother City on Global Recycling Day, to also spread environmental consciousness.
Bingo leads the way
Bingo’s first visit on Global Recycling Day was to Sinako High School in Khayelitsha.
There he engaged with learners in interactive activities, which centred around recycling.

From there, he travelled to Strandfontein, where he continued his mission with younger learners at Dennegeur Primary School.
Clean Up and Recycle Project launched
The City’s Urban Waste Management (UWM) Directorate, in conjunction with the Western Cape Department of Local Government and the Community Development Workers Programme (CDWP), joined hands with the community, where the Clean Up and Recycle Project was launched.
This involved a clean-up of a dumping hotspot in the area.
Declare war against waste and illegal dumping
The Clean Up and Recycle project will help to raise awareness about recycling, as well as of City drop-off sites.
