A Correctional Services official is in custody in a Cape Town hospital. This is, as Delft Police are investigating a case of attempted murder after a person, attached to the Correctional Service Department, allegedly shot his girlfriend in the arm. He then turned the gun on himself.

The shooting incident occurred on 30 September, at a premises in TRA 5 temporary housing, in Symphony Way. A 27-year-old female was shot and wounded. Captain FC van Wyk says the suspect allegedly shot himself under the chin, and the bullet exited his cheek.

 

 

A Correctional Service Department’s official pistol was used

 

Van Wyk says the wounded man was taken by ambulance to a nearby medical facility for treatment. At this stage, the Police can confirm that the pistol that was used is a service pistol of the Department of Correctional Services. He says the suspect is currently in custody in the hospital. He is under police guard.

 

Call for information

 

He says the motive for the shooting has not been established and will be the subject of the probe. People with information are asked to contact the Police. They can contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the mobile application MySAPS anonymously.
