Over time, few things are certain in fashion: Trends will fade, personal tastes will change and the one item you actually want will be way too expensive. And, don’t forget, there will always be a must-have item that simply doesn’t age well. Fashion experts have dug through the archives to bring you five of the most questionable trends from the last decade.

  1. The Wedge Sneaker from 2012. We should have let this “elevated” sneaker fade into obscurity after its first 15 minutes of fame. Instead, we gave wedge sneakerss a second chance in 2019. Needless to say, the third time will not be the charm for glammed-up gym shoe.
  2. The Cold shoulder top from 2016. If you wanted to show a little skin in the office around 2016—without getting into trouble from HR—you probably wore a cold-shoulder top. Basically, they’re tops that had the shoulders cut out. We thought it was cute. Experts say: NO.
  3. High Low Dresses from 2017: Which is it: Midi or maxi? Dresses were long at the back and mini in the front. We saw it a lot on the red carpet… but it’s just that a trend… the classic mini, midi or maxi will always be better, than trying to mix them together.
  4. Clear shoes from 2018: Blame Kim Kardashian for this clear shoe trend, which gave us countless blisters and let’s be honest… looked like, er…how can I make this radio friendly? “Lady of the Night” shoes.
  5. Tiny Sunglasses from 2018: This was not an easy accessory to pull off…unless, of course, you’ve got the cheekbones of a supermodel or you happen to be just as effortlessly cool as Rihanna.
