[LISTEN] Love Is Not Tourism

Published on

You may remember the story of Clint and Cordelia who who were separated  for nearly half a year because of borders being closed in Bali and South Africa. Now after 5 months, they’ve finally been reunited.

Unfortunately not everyone has been as fortunate – especially bi-national couples and family. International borders remain closed to most people which means some couples and families have not been able to reunite as they don’t qualify for certain Visas that are needed depending on the country. Smile Breakfast heard from Kirsty who has not seen her fiancé in over a year:

Like Kirsty and her partner Arrie, Natasha is in a similar situation. They are all part of a global initiative called Love Is Not Tourism.

The initiative aims to create awareness and eventually change for governments to allow couples to travel to one another under certain conditions.

“We are willing to submit to appropriate safety regulations: self-paid test upon arrival and quarantine until a negative result is received or a 14 day strict quarantine, as long as unmarried couples and families can visit their most important people, as is possible in Denmark, Norway, and the Netherlands.”
