Capetonian marathon swimmer, musician and mother-of-three Carina Bruwer became the first woman to swim across Nelson Mandela Bay in Port Elizabeth, in support of Muzukidz in Vredehoek, an organisation that offers underprivileged children the opportunity to learn the violin. Most of the kids are from areas such as Langa, Nyanga and Gugulethu who sometimes have difficulties with travelling costs. Bruwer raised over R27 000 in funds that will go towards the children’s violin lessons. Some of the funds will also go towards a similar project that will be launched in Port Elizabeth.

Bruwer says she always wanted to do the swim and at the same time doing it for a good cause.
