Sri Lanka, also known as The Lions have only won the CWC once in 1996. They have been consecutive runners up in the 2007 and 2011 Cricket World Cups.
The current team looks impressive on paper and is captained by Dimuth Karunaratne. The potential game changer for the Green Jerseys in this tournament is that of old warhorse Lasith Malinga who still remains Sri Lanka’s best bet in the bowling department and key to any chance of Sri Lanka making an impact in England and Wales.
Ranked 9th in the ODI’s and 8th in T20I’s, the islanders hit an all-time low in 2017 after Zimbabwe beat them 3-2 in a five-match ODI series however their recent one-wicket win over the Proteas in an ODI encounter in Durban will give them hope, and hopefully lead to a few upsets in the World Cup.
