The Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources has announced fuel price adjustments for November 2026, effective from 4 November 2026.
Both grades of petrol will decrease by just 1 cent a litre, while diesel prices will drop by between R1.09 and R1.19 a litre.
The price changes come after the Finance Minister announced a R10-billion temporary fuel levy relief package during last month’s mini-budget.
The general fuel levy has been cut by R3 a litre for diesel and R1.50 a litre for petrol. This relief will be scaled back in December, to R1.50 a litre for diesel and R1 a litre for petrol.
The Department laid out the main reasons for the fuel price adjustments below:
- The average Brent Crude oil price increased from 101 US Dollars (USD) to 108 USD during the period under review. The increase is due to the ongoing US war in Iran, the recent attacks on Saudi Arabia infrastructure, as well as high freight and insurance costs caused by ship-to-ship transfers.
- The average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin increased during the period under review. This is due to tight global supply, higher seasonal demand ahead of the winter in the Northern Hemisphere and the continued Russia/Ukraine conflict.
- The Rand was weaker against the US Dollar (from 16.21 to 16.55 Rand per USD) during the period under review when compared to the previous one. This led to higher contributions to the Basic Fuel Prices of petrol, diesel and Illuminating Paraffin by 36.93 c/l, 49.00 c/l and 49.26 c/l respectively.
- The cumulative slate amounted to a negative balance of R15.876 billion for petrol and diesel at the end of September 2026. In line with the provisions of the Self-Adjusting Slate Levy Mechanism, the slate levy of 135.84 c/l will be implemented in the price structures of petrol and diesel with effect from the 4th of November 2026. The Slate Levy has increased by 48.18 c/l
- Due to rising fuel prices and the resulting pressure on households and businesses, the Minister of Finance announced a temporary reduction in the general fuel levy of R1.50 per litre for petrol and R3.00 per litre for diesel, effective from 4 November. The general fuel levy will be reduced to 279.0 and 116.00 cents per litre in the price structures of petrol and diesel, respectively.
Based on current local and international factors, the fuel prices for November 2026 will be adjusted as follows:
- Petrol 93 (ULP & LRP): One cent per litre (1.00 c/l) decrease.
- Petrol 95 (ULP &LRP): One cent per litre (1.00 c/l) decrease.
- Diesel (0.05% sulphur): One hundred and nine point eight two cents per litre (109.82 c/l) decrease.
- Diesel (0.005% sulphur): One hundred and nineteen point eight two cents per litre (119.82 c/l) decrease.
- Illuminating Paraffin (wholesale): Two Rands and seventy-five cents per litre (R2.75 c/l) increase.
- SMNRP for IP: Three Rands and sixty-six cents per litre (R3.66 c/l) increase.
- Maximum Retail Price of LPGas: One hundred and eighty-three cents per kilogram (183.00 c/kg) increase and two hundreds and eight cents per kilogram (208.00c/kg) increase in the Western Cape.
