Residents and motorists in Samora Machel are being warned to expect roadworks and possible traffic delays, as the City of Cape Town carries out maintenance work along Oliver Tambo Avenue and Anton Fransch Street.

The City confirmed that the roadworks are already underway and are expected to continue until mid-December 2026.

Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Rob Quintas, says the work will be carried out from Monday to Saturday, which could lead to traffic delays in the area.

“The works will take place between 07:30 and 17:00 from Monday to Saturday in order to complete the project as soon as possible. Residents and business owners can expect some noise during this time. We thank you for your understanding while we complete this important maintenance work, which all forms part of how we keep Cape Town moving.”

Quintas says congestion can be expected at the intersection of Jakes Gerwel Drive and Oliver Tambo Avenue, as well as along Oliver Tambo Avenue.

“Traffic moving in both directions will be affected. Flag personnel will be on site to direct motorists through temporary detours around the work area.”

The work includes:

• Installation of new underground stormwater pipes, replacing the current pipes with larger ones

• Construction of additional catch pits and manholes

• Repairs to sidewalks

• Resurfacing of the roads
