Two foreign nationals have been arrested after police seized more than 2kg of crystal methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of more than R500 000, at a spaza shop in Diepsloot on Monday, 28 September 2026.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), officers from the Diepsloot Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) conducted an ad hoc operation after receiving information from a registered informant about the suspected storage and distribution of illegal narcotics in the area.
Police say that the informant indicated that a known target was expected to receive a consignment of about 3kg of crystal meth, valued at more than R700 000, allegedly for distribution and sale in the area.
“When acting on the information, Diepsloot SAPS CPU members promptly responded and went to conduct a search at the said spaza shop. During the operation, members seized approximately 2kg of Crystal Meth, with an estimated street value of over R500 000.00.”
The known target allegedly fled the scene shortly before police could make an arrest.
Two other suspects were subsequently arrested. Police said the suspects are Ethiopian and Malawian nationals and are expected to appear in court on charges relating to the possession and distribution of illegal narcotics.
