Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has named a new-look team for Sunday’s Test against Australia in Perth, making 13 changes to the starting side that beat the All Blacks in Baltimore.
Andre Esterhuizen will captain the Springboks for the first time, becoming the 68th player to lead South Africa. The versatile Sharks midfielder has previously captained his club side and has also been used at loose forward for the Boks.
Jasper Wiese will earn his 50th Test cap from the replacements bench, while Eben Etzebeth will extend his record as the most-capped Springbok to 147 Tests.
Only Etzebeth and wing Ethan Hooker retain their places in the starting XV from the 43-28 win over New Zealand.
Handre Pollard returns at flyhalf after recovering from injury, while Canan Moodie joins Esterhuizen in midfield.
Erasmus has also rested Pieter-Steph du Toit and Damian de Allende following their heavy workload over the past few months.
The Boks head into the clash after winning their four-Test series against New Zealand 3-1, while Australia are unbeaten in their last five Tests.
Erasmus says Australia will present a very different challenge to the All Blacks, with the Wallabies playing in front of a home crowd in Perth.
The Test kicks off at 11:45 South African time on Sunday at Optus Stadium.
