A 24-year-old man is expected to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 14 September 2026, after six stolen vehicles were recovered in Mandalay.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) Flying Squad members, working with Crime Intelligence, arrested the suspect during an operation in the area on Thursday, 10 September 2026.
The officers acted on a tip-off and searched a residential property in Dickens Drive, where they found a Toyota Starlet that had recently been hijacked in Harare.
The team then proceeded to a second address in Melderson Road, where they recovered four Volkswagen Polo vehicles and a Toyota Hilux.
Police say the Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) on the vehicles had been tampered with, with some being removed.
“Upon further probing, police discovered that some of the vehicles were linked to cases of hijackings that were reported in Cape Town Central, Woodstock and Muizenberg SAPS from July until September 2026,” SAPS said.
The suspect is expected to face charges relating to the recovered stolen vehicles.
