Expect traffic disruptions this weekend in Green Point, Mouille Point and Sea Point. This is because over 20 000 runners will take part in various OUTsurance Gun Run races. The 17km Trail Run, 10km road run, 5km Fun Run and 5km Pet Walk will be held on Saturday, 12 September, and the 21,1km will take place on Sunday, 13 September 2026.

According to a media statement, the OUTsurance Gun Run will see 21 000 participants tackle varying distances. The 5km and 10km routes will begin on Fritz Sonnenberg Road, Green Point and take runners through parts of the Atlantic Seaboard before finishing at the Green Point Shared Fields. Then there is the 17km trail run. It sets off from Van Riebeeck Park and follows trails through Table Mountain, detours via Signal Hill, and offers breathtaking views of the city bowl before finishing at the Green Point Common Fields.

At the same time, soccer lovers will also be descending on Athlone Stadium for a Cape Town Derby on Sunday. Newly promoted Hope FC will host Cape Town City FC in the first-ever derby between the two sides. According to the City’s JP Smith, the highly anticipated Cape Town Derby in the Motsepe Foundation Championship kicks off at 15:00, with gates opening at 13:00. Smith says tickets are available from Webtickets for R40,00.

Traffic officers say with the Gun Run races setting off between 06:30 and 08:30 on Saturday, there will be an impact on traffic, particularly across the Green Point, Mouille Point and Sea Point areas. On Sunday, motorists and residents will be able to see the participants of the half marathon. These runners will pass through Green Point, De Waterkant, Sea Point, Camps Bay and Clifton. MMC Smith has asked people in the vicinity to take note of the road closures and traffic interruptions on part of the route. This includes Somerset Road in Green Point, Beach Road in Green Point and Mouille Point, Beach Road in Sea Point, Kloof Road and Victoria Road in Camps Bay.
