Western Cape commuters are being warned of delays and disruptions to train services due to major Eskom power supply interruptions.

PRASA Western Cape says the power challenges are affecting train operations on all lines. Services may be delayed, disrupted or suspended.

Commuters are urged to make alternative transport arrangements where possible and allow extra time for their journeys.

Eskom says the interruptions are affecting several areas, including George, Oudtshoorn, Beaufort West, Laingsburg, the Cape Winelands, Citrusdal farms and Blackheath.

“Eskom teams have been dispatched to the affected areas to investigate the causes of the interruptions, assess the extent of the damage and commence with the necessary repairs.”

There is currently no estimated time for power to be restored, as teams are still assessing the damage.

Eskom says bad weather is also hampering repair efforts in parts of Oudtshoorn.

“Some areas like Oudtshoorn are currently inaccessible to our teams due to inclement weather and our teams are closely monitoring the situation and will resume access and restoration activities as soon as conditions improve and it is safe to do so.”
