Over 3,000 bikers and supporters to descend on Saldanha this weekend, boosting Tourism, Economic Growth and Community Impact. A Local club, Desert Wolves Motorcycle Club (MCC) is preparing to welcome thousands of visitors to Saldanha Bay for its Annual Rally, taking place from 28–30 August 2026 at Saldanha Resort.
Desert Wolves MCC President Tyrone de Wet says the club wants the rally to leave a positive footprint long after the motorcycles have left town.
More Than a Motorcycle Rally – An Economic Opportunity for Saldanha Bay
With more than 3,000 bikers and supporters expected from across South Africa and Namibia, the 2026 Desert Wolves Rally is set to deliver a significant economic injection into Saldanha Bay, while continuing the club’s commitment to giving back to the local community. The rally brings visitors into Saldanha Bay at a time when the region traditionally experiences a quieter tourism period.
“We want the Desert Wolves Rally to be about much more than motorcycles. We want visitors to experience Saldanha Bay, spend money in local businesses and see what this incredible community has to offer,” said Desert Wolves MCC President Tyrone de Wet.

Over one weekend, thousands of visitors will require accommodation, fuel, meals, groceries, entertainment and other services. This creates increased demand for local businesses and service providers. The economic benefit extends far beyond the gates of Saldanha Resort. Guesthouses, hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, fuel stations, retail businesses, tourism operators, taxi services, entertainment providers and local suppliers all have the opportunity to benefit from the increased visitor traffic.

As part of the 2026 rally, the club will distribute 800 food parcels to families in Saldanha, providing practical assistance to households facing financial pressure. The initiative is an important part of the club’s commitment to ensuring that the benefits of the rally extend beyond tourism and entertainment.
Creating a Lasting Local Impact
The rally has become a major gathering on the motorcycle calendar, attracting participants and spectators travelling from destinations including Cape Town, Johannesburg and other parts of South Africa, as well as Namibia. The weekend programme will feature live entertainment, motorcycle showcases, drag racing, social activities and a range of attractions, creating a festival atmosphere for both bikers and the wider community.

From the local restaurant serving an additional table of visitors, to the petrol station filling thousands of tanks, the accommodation provider welcoming additional guests, the local supplier providing services to the event, and the family receiving a food parcel – the impact of the rally can be felt throughout the community.
Tyrone de Wet added: “Our members have full-time jobs and families, but we give our time and resources because we believe in making a difference. Saldanha has welcomed us, and we want our rally to give back to Saldanha. We want people to benefit from the visitors we bring, from the business we generate and from the community initiatives we support. That is the legacy we want to build.”
