No foul play is suspected after a man was found dead in the driver’s seat of a vehicle in Sea Point.

The Western Cape SAPS confirmed that officers were called to the corner of Regent Road and St Andrews Street on Sunday morning, where the 54-year-old victim was found behind the wheel of a Suzuki vehicle.

The man was originally thought to be asleep behind the wheel but was later found to be deceased. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of death.

“Sea Point police registered an inquest following the discovery… No foul play is suspected. A postmortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death,” said Western Cape SAPS spokesperson, Captain F.C Van Wyk.

The Sea Point City Improvement District (SPCID) noted that its teams had found the victim on the scene. It further urged the public not to share images of the crime scene.

“Out of respect for the deceased and their family, who may not yet have been informed, images of the vehicle could lead to identification before formal notification has taken place,” read the SPCID statement.
