Cape Town is preparing for a busy long weekend with thousands of people expected to attend major sporting events and the Totalsports Women’s Race.

The City expects around 45,000 spectators at DHL Stadium on Friday, 7 August, when the DHL Stormers take on the All Blacks in an international friendly.

“Stadium gates open at 3pm. To assist supporters travelling to the stadium, free MyCiTi shuttle services will operate for valid ticket holders between Civic Centre, Thibault Square and Stadium stations before and after the match. Parking will also be available from 2:30pm at designated City parking areas, while paid parking is available at Parkalot and Harbour Arch.”

The City says Sunday’s Totalsports Women’s Race will affect traffic, as road closures will be put in place.

“About 10,000 runners are expected to take part in the race. The 10km event starts at 8am, followed by the 5km race at 8:30am. Temporary road closures will be in place between 4am and 1pm along parts of Darling, Buitenkant, Long, Wale, Orange and several other streets in the city centre. Motorists are advised to plan ahead and use alternative routes.”

Meanwhile, Currie Cup action also takes place on Sunday, with the DHL Stormers XXIII hosting the Toyota Cheetahs at Athlone Stadium.

“Gates open at 1:30pm for the 3pm kick-off, with spectator parking available at the P3, P4 and P5 parking areas on Hickory Road.”
