The accused faces a charge of attempted murder for allegedly infecting his 38-year-old girlfriend with HIV. The postponement is for bail information to be obtained. The NPA’s Regional Spokesperson for Gauteng Division: Pretoria, Lumka Mahanjana, says he will appear again in court on 03 August 2026. Until then, he remains in custody.

According to Mahanjana, the accused was involved in a relationship with the complainant between October 2025 and June 2026. It’s alleged that he misrepresented his HIV status to her, after informing her that he was HIV negative. The complainant allegedly, on 26 June 2026, discovered antiretroviral (ARV) medication in his bag and confronted him about it. It’s further reported that the accused had allegedly admitted that he was HIV positive and informed the complainant that he had intentionally infected her because he did not want her to be with another person.

An HIV test at a medical facility

Mahanjana says the complainant underwent an HIV test at a medical facility on 25 July 2026. She was then informed that she had tested positive for HIV. “The following day, she reported the matter to the police. The accused was subsequently arrested on the same day at their place of residence,” she concluded.
