According to the Hawks, members of a multi-disciplinary team took part in the operation on 09 July 2026. Officers from the Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB), Provincial Traffic based in Caledon and the Cape Town K9 unit were involved. They had received intelligence about the alleged drugs, which led to a routine Vehicle Check Point (VCP). This was erected on the N2 in Grabouw.

Suspect arrested in a drug bust
Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi from the Hawks said a silver Audi was stopped randomly. He says the K9 narcotic dog reacted positively to what was in the hidden apartment. “Upon further search, mandrax to the value of R2.1 million was found,” added Vukubi. He says a 60-year-old male suspect was arrested. The suspect will appear in the Grabouw Magistrates Court next week. His appearance has been scheduled for Monday, 13 July 2026.
