Residents in Plumstead and surrounding suburbs have been notified of planned electricity supply interruptions as the City of Cape Town carries out essential infrastructure upgrades and maintenance work.
The interruption is scheduled for Saturday, 20 June 2026, with a possible alternative date of 27 June 2026 should circumstances prevent the work from proceeding as planned.
“It is important to note that interruptions to supply will only impact the areas on the map and only on the relevant date. The work will be carried out from 20:00 on Saturday 20 June 2026 until 08:00 on Sunday 21 June 2026, if all goes to plan. An alternate date is also provided should the work not go ahead as planned,” the City says.
The areas that could be impacted include Plumstead, Grassy Park, Lotus River, Ottery, Wetton, Fairways, Wynberg, Rosmead, Parkwood and Southfield, as well as other surrounding neighbourhoods.
The City has urged residents to treat all electrical installations as live during the interruption period, even if power appears to be off, as supply could be switched back on without prior notice. Households are also advised to switch off appliances beforehand to reduce the risk of damage caused by power surges when electricity is restored.
The City of Cape Town has apologised for the inconvenience and says the work is necessary to ensure long-term reliability of the electricity network.
