Cape Town Launches Second Round of Community Water Grants

Published on

The City of Cape Town, together with the Western Cape Economic Development Partnership (EDP), says applications for the 2025/26 Water Grants are now open.

Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation, Zahid Badroodien, says projects must run from February to June, with applications due by next Friday, 19 December 2025.

“The first round of grants demonstrated the power of active citizenry. We are excited to expand this work and encourage more organisations to step forward with solutions rooted in local knowledge.”

Nishendra Moodley, CEO of the Western Cape EDP says funding ranging from R10 000 to R250 000 will support community-led projects that prevent water pollution, improve sewer networks, and encourage citizen participation.

“We’ve seen how local organisations bring energy, insight, and trust into this work. This next round of grants will enable more community-level initiatives that not only address immediate challenges but also build long-term capability within communities.”

Applicants must submit realistic budgets and be completed by 30 June 2026. Application documents, including guidelines and a project plan template, are available at: https://wcedp.co.za/coct-water-grants/.

Completed applications must be submitted as instructed on the EDP website.
