Expect a flurry of events in Cape Town this weekend. The Mother City will host more than 50 events from today through Sunday. This includes the Smile FM and First for Women’s 5 kilometres Walk on Sunday, in support of survivors of GBV.

Expect a flurry of events in Cape Town this weekend
According to the Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, they expect around 80,000 people to attend the Festive Light Switch-on on Sunday. This ushers in the joyous season in anticipation of summer and the yearly festive period.

A blockbuster weekend of events
One of the events to look forward to is the Mitchells Plain Festival at Westridge Gardens in Mitchells Plain. That starts tonight. It’s a 3-day festival and some of the artists in the line-up include YoungstaCPT, Ziggy, Craig Lucas, Paxton Fielies, Zoe Zana, Karin Kortje, Berry Trytsman and Von D. There will also be carnival rides, food stalls, and craft vendors. It’s the 17th edition of the Plain Festival, and the festival will come to a close on Sunday, 30 November 2025.
More than 3,000 passionate ocean sports enthusiasts and beachgoers from across the country are expected to attend the inaugural Surf Expo Africa at CTICC 2. This is the continent’s first all-ocean sports and beach lifestyle trade show. You can expect a 3-day festival of surf and lifestyle exhibition, workshops, talks and brand demonstrations, from Friday to Sunday.
Closing out November with a bang
Over 1,000 endurance athletes will brave the cold plunge in the Atlantic Ocean for the 9th edition of the Torpedo SwimRun on Saturday, 29 November. The Torpedo SwimRun is an open water swimming and trail running extravaganza. It spans beaches in the city and through rugged mountain terrain. Athletes will traverse 16 km of water and land from Sandy Bay to Clifton.
Lower Main Road in Observatory will be car-free on Saturday, 29 November, for Streetopia. This is a community festival that brings together artists, nonprofit organisations, residents and local businesses for a day of street performances, artwork, gifting, music and others. The City says Streetopia is a free event aimed at promoting a safer street culture for all, using creativity.

At Athlone Stadium: The Cape Malay Board will crown the winners of its 86th annual competition at the Grand Finale on Saturday. Twelve groups will compete for the Silver Fez Crown. This is a symbol of prestige for the Cape Malay choral music heritage. The competition starts at 13:30.
The Heineken World Tour will bring the Formula 1 experience to Cape Town on Sunday, 30 November, with a day of motorsport, lifestyle and live music at the Green Point Precinct. The event will see the return of the Red Bull F1 car to the Mother City’s streets for a few demo runs to provide spectators with a glimpse of the Formula 1 action under the shadow of Table Mountain. The event kicks off at 12:00 and will run until 22:00.

Some of the closed roads this weekend
Residents and motorists are advised that Lower Main Road, between Milton Road and Norfolk Road in Observatory, will be closed from 09:00 until 20:00 on the day. Residents are motorists are advised that Fritz Sonnenberg at Bay Road, Stephen Way at Fritz Sonnenberg, Vlei Road at Helen Suzman Boulevard, and Granger Bay Boulevard at the Green Point A-Track Parking will be closed to traffic from early morning until late on Sunday evening.
