Investigations are underway after a minibus taxi transporting high school learners overturned in Paarl on Monday.

According to the Drakenstein Municipality, the minibus taxi, which had 15 learners onboard, overturned on Sonstraal Road near the entrance to the Nederburg Wine Estate in Paarl.

Reports suggest that the taxi, believed to be a scholar transport, was on its way to New Orleans Secondary School at the time of the accident.

The Drakenstein Municipality’s Public Safety Department responded to the scene and confirmed that two learners sustained serious injuries, while six learners were slightly injured.

Meanwhile, while the driver and the other six learners appeared uninjured, they were all transported to the hospital by the Western Cape Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and private ambulance services.

The wreckage of the minibus taxi has been recovered, and the roadway is clear.

“Our thoughts are with the learners, their families and everyone affected by this incident,” added the municipality
