Mobility MEC Isaac Sileku is angry following the Nyanga Terminus Taxi Rank shooting. Two people were killed in the attack yesterday, while eight others were wounded. MEC Sileku has expressed his anger at the tragic shooting as he was in the area, less than 24 hours earlier, as part of the Department’s ongoing road user education initiative. This took place at the same site as the shooting.

“I am heartbroken by this tragedy,” MEC Sileku added.

Sileku said he was heartbroken when he heard of the shooting incident. He has expressed his condolences to those who have died. He has wished those in the hospital a speedy recovery.

Mobility MEC Isaac Sileku said, “This senseless act of violence has not only claimed the lives of two women but has also left several others hurt and traumatised.”

 

MEC wants action

The MEC has asked law enforcement authorities to move swiftly in bringing the perpetrators to justice. He has called on people with information to assist the police in their investigation. Sileku said violence of any kind, especially in spaces meant for safe public transport and daily commuting, cannot and will not be tolerated.

Police Oversight and Community Safety MEC, Anroux Marais, said, “The Police must do everything in their power to track down those responsible for these heinous acts. “ 

Call for information

Meanwhile, the Police Oversight and Community Safety MEC, Anroux Marais, has asked people with information to come forward to help the Police track down the perpetrators. She says public cooperation is needed to help the Police apprehend the culprits.

“I urge anyone with information to assist the police with the investigation, ” said MEC Marais. 

Everyone must work together

He says everyone must work together to restore safety and dignity at taxi ranks in the Province. This includes for the sector in general as well. At the same time, MEC Sileku reaffirmed the department’s commitment to supporting law enforcement and ensuring that public transport nodes remain safe for all commuters and operators.

MEC Sileku added, ” My thoughts are with the families of the deceased and those currently recovering in the hospital.”
