President Cyril Ramaphosa appoints new IEC Commissioners

President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed new IEC Commissioners. The President made the appointment in terms of Section 6 of the Electoral Commission Act, as well as on the recommendation of the National Assembly.

 

The Commissioners are:

 

  • Mrs Joyce Pitso will serve as a full-time member of the Electoral Commission.
  • Judge Dhaya Pillay will serve as a part-time member of the Electoral Commission.
  • Mr Mosotho Moepya will serve as a full-time member of the Electoral Commission.

 

They will serve in these positions for 7 years.

 

 

The President has wished the commissioners well in safeguarding the integrity of diverse elections

 

 

The Spokesperson to the President, Vincent Magwenya, says President Ramaphosa has also, in terms of Section 8(1) of the Electoral Commission Act, designated Mr Moepya as the chairperson of the Commission.

 

Magwenya says the President has wished the appointees well in safeguarding the integrity of the diverse elections in the country.

 

South Africans will be heading to the polls for the Local Government Elections sometime in 2026, with the next National elections taking place in 2029.
