WATCH: Suspected gang hit claims life in Kuils River

Published on

A suspected targeted hit has claimed the life of a 30-year-old man in what police believe to be a gang-related shooting in Kuils River.

According to Western Cape Police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, officers were called to the crime scene at the traffic intersection on the corners of Van Riebeeck and Annandale Roads at around 19:50.

There, a man driving a Mini Cooper was found with multiple gunshot wounds.

Video footage circulating on social media of the incident shows a suspect approaching the vehicle, seemingly firing shots into the vehicle and then fleeing.

Twigg confirmed these reports, noting that a murder investigation is underway at Kuils River SAPS.

“The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The suspect fled the scene and is yet to be arrested. The motive for the attack is believed to be gang related,” said Twigg.

Ward 11 Councillor in Kuils River, Wouter De Vos said he was on the scene shortly after the incident, describing the incident as a possible “planned attack on a specific target”.
De Vos further urged residents to avoid spreading misinformation.

“Please refrain from speculation and the spreading of rumours, as this does not add any value at all,” he said.

However, he, along with police, called on anyone that may have information on the incident to report it to the police.

“If you do have information that can assist the investigating officer of SAPS, please do make contact with the investigating team.”

Police said tip offs can be made to Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or the MySAPS app anonymously.
