Oscar-winning actress Diane Keaton has died at the age of 79.

 

According to reports, a family spokesperson confirmed her passing, adding that there are no further details available at this time, and they have asked for privacy at this time.

 

The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed to PEOPLE magazine that they responded to Keaton’s home in California yesterday morning and transported the actress to a local hospital.

 

Keaton rose to fame in the 1970s through her role as Kay Adams-Corleone in The Godfather films.

 

She was also known for her roles in Father of the Bride, First Wives Club and Annie Hall, which won her the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1978.

 

She also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical Motion Picture and the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her role in Annie Hall.

 

Her most recent film was the 2024 comedy Summer Camp, where she starred alongside Eugene Levy and Kathy Bates.

 

Following news of her passing, several former co-stars and fellow celebrities paid tribute to the beloved actress.

 

Her First Wives Club co-star Bette Midler wrote on Instagram: “The brilliant, beautiful, extraordinary Diane Keaton has died. I cannot tell you how unbearably sad this makes me.”

Actor Ben Stiller wrote on X: “Diane Keaton. One of the greatest film actors ever. An icon of style, humour and comedy. Brilliant. What a person.”

 

 

Actress Kate Hudson, who is the daughter of her co-star in the First Wives Club, Golder Hawn, shared a clip of the film on Instagram, saying “We love you so much Diane”.

Actor Robert De Niro also shared a statement with The Hollywood Reporter, expressing sadness at the passing of Keaton.

 

“I am very sad to hear of Diane’s passing. I was very fond of her, and the news of her leaving us has taken me totally by surprise. I was not expecting her to leave us. She will be missed. May she rest in peace.”
