Who was your favourite teacher at school? It’s time to thank them today. The Western Cape Education Department has thanked all teachers for the role they play in the lives of learners at school, on World Teachers’ Day.

“Behind every dream realised is a teacher who believed, ” said MEC David Maynier.

MEC David Maynier says the teachers of the Western Cape, on World Teachers’ Day, are their most valuable asset. He hopes that these educators realise the enormous impact they have on their learners long after they have left school. MEC Maynier says teachers develop the next generation of doctors, engineers, artists and scientists. They also develop the next generation of teachers, along with an endless list of other vocations that keep the economy on the trajectory of positive growth.

Thank you, teachers!

The Department says October is also celebrated as National Teachers’ Month. This recognises the incredible contribution that teachers make every day. The MEC says teachers are the educators, the first responders, the caregivers, and the protectors to their learners.

Maynier said that when teachers have done so much to support learners, learners should ask what they can do to help their teachers.

MEC Maynier, “Thank you for the support, care and love that you show every day to the children of the Western Cape.”

Happy World Teachers’ Day

The WCED says they know that the going is tough in the schooling environment, and that society places a great burden on teachers to build the future of their children. Maynier added that the Western Cape Government is going to do everything it can to invest in teachers and also to develop their teaching skills. For this, they are allocating more than R500 million to teacher training over the next three years.

MEC Mayner, “I encourage all our learners who will matriculate this year to keep in contact with their teachers, and let them know just how much their support has mattered.”

The MEC said that they are working to improve their monitoring and evaluation, so that every hour a teacher spends in training is an hour that generates value for the teacher and value for their learners.
