Harare police have registered an inquest docket for investigation following the death of a couple in a fatal fire in the Endlovini Informal Settlement in Khayelitsha on Tuesday.

According to the City’s Fire and Rescue Services, authorities received a call during the early hours of Tuesday morning, at around 00:30, of informal structures alight on the corner of Steve Biko and Swartklip Roads.

Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse, says crews from Khayelitsha and Macassar were dispatched to the scene.

Carelse added that two structures were destroyed and two adults, a male and a female, sustained fatal burn wounds.

According to police, the victim’s bodies were found in the debris after the fire was extinguished.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation, and the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

“Anyone with any information about this incident can contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the mobile application MySAPS anonymously.”

Meanwhile, investigations have also been launched into the cause of a fire that broke out in Pinelands on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Carelse, the incident was reported at around 15:30 as a dwelling was alight in Welwyn Avenue, Pinelands.

“Crews from Epping, Bellville, Melkbosstrand and Wynberg were on scene, including the IMT Type 5,” added Carelse

Carelse added that crews had to contend with another fire, as a result of the embers from the original fire, in Parkchester Road, as the thatch roof caught alight.

Both dwellings, one a single storey and the other a double storey, were reportedly destroyed in the blaze that was extinguished at 20:50.

“No injuries were reported, and the cause is yet to be determined,” added Carelse
