Detectives from the Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit are investigating a fatal shooting in Westridge, Mitchells Plain, which claimed the lives of three men on Wednesday evening, 17 September.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa says the incident occurred at around 20:20 and is believed to be linked to the ongoing gang conflict in the area.

According to reports, the victims – aged 20, 23 and 32 – were approached by unidentified gunmen who fired multiple shots at them before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

The suspects remain at large, and police have yet to make any arrests.

Authorities are appealing to the public for assistance.

In another shooting last Thursday, 11 September, a 23-year-old man was shot and killed in Tafelsig.

This triple murder in Westridge also comes on the heels of another mass shooting in Mitchells Plain at the end of August.

In that incident, gunmen drove to a house on Netball Street in Beacon Valley on Sunday, 31 August and opened fire on a group of six people. A 24-year-old man died on the scene, while five others, including a 14-year-old, were wounded.

On Monday, 28 August, a man was shot dead in front of the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court in yet another gang-related shooting. A 23-year-old man was arrested for the killing the next day.

Western Cape Police have stepped up their deployment in Mitchells Plain, and the Cape Flats, to rid the community of illegal firearms.
