City launches first vehicle license renewal drive-through in Brackenfell

Published on

Cape Town motorists can now renew their vehicle licence discs without leaving their cars, as the City of Cape Town launches its first-ever drive-through licensing facility in Brackenfell.

Located on the corner of Reservoir and Kruispad Roads, the new service promises faster transactions, with renewals expected to take less than five minutes if all documents are in order.

The drive-through operates Mondays to Fridays from 11:30 to 19:30, and on Saturdays from 11:00 to 14:30.

As agents of the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), the City says it is also working to extend weekday operating hours, with updates to be communicated once finalised.

“At this stage, our new facility will cater exclusively for the renewal of motor vehicle licences,” said Mayoral Committee Member for Finance, Councillor Siseko Mbandezi

Mbandezi added that the services will be cashless, accepting debit and credit card payments to ensure a more efficient service to our residents.

Initial tests reportedly indicate that a renewal process in the drive-through could take a motorist less than five minutes to renew their disc if all paperwork is correct. Motorists who received renewal notices via SMS can simply present the message at the facility to complete the process.

According to Mbandezi, the innovation is part of the City’s efforts to remain the country’s most trusted and convenient motor vehicle licence renewal agent.

“We encourage motorists to make use of the Brackenfell drive-through and experience the convenience of renewing your disc from the comfort of your vehicle,” said Mbandezi

The City has confirmed that it will continue exploring additional sites for similar facilities in the months ahead.

This follows the successful launch of the City’s one-of-a-kind Online Booking System, which empowers residents to make bookings for key municipal services, including motor vehicle licensing and registrations, municipal account payments and general enquiries or making account payment arrangements.

The online booking service is currently available at selected branches, with plans to expand further.
