Malmesbury Police detectives are investigating a reckless and negligent driving case following a crash between a light delivery vehicle and a car on the N7 on Sunday night.
Malmesbury police reportedly responded to a complaint of an accident at about 19:25, on the Old Kalbaskraal Road, involving a Kia light delivery vehicle and a Mecedes Benz.
According to to Police Seargent Wesley Twuigg, upon arrival on the scene, officers found approximately 19 people, including children, who sustained injuries.
“The injured victims were taken to a medical facility for medical treatment.” added Twigg
Twigg says the circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.
The Western Cape Mobility Department had previously confirmed to Smile FM news that 20 people were injured in the accident on the N7 at the Chatsworth turnoff.
Department spokesperson, Muneera Allie, says 5 People sustained serious injuries, and 15 people were treated for moderate injuries.
“Following a temporary road closure, the road was re-opened at 10:30pm.” added Allie
