R50 000 reward for information on murder of ANC activist

Published on

Western Cape police have announced a cash reward of up to R50 000 for information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of those behind the murder of ANC activist and community leader, Myolisi Magibisela.

The 48-year-old ward convener was shot multiple times outside his home in Hlanga Crescent, Makhaza, on the morning of 23 June 2025. Emergency services declared him dead at the scene. According to police reports, gunshots were heard before a white VW Jetta sped away from the area.

Provincial detectives confirmed that the case is being treated as murder and have appealed to the public for assistance.

“According to reports, gunshots were heard and when community members looked out they saw a white VW Jetta sped off and found the deceased shot several times,” said Western Cape police spokesperson Colonel Frederick van Wyk in the initial report on the incident.

The ANC has described Magibisela’s death as a devastating loss.

He served as the ANC’s Ward 96 convener and was also the Khayelitsha zonal chairperson of the South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO).

“The ANC in the Dullah Omar Region is profoundly shocked and outraged by the senseless killing of our beloved comrade. Myolisi epitomised the spirit of community activism and selfless dedication that the ANC urgently needs to drive its renewal programme,” said ANC representative Akhona Jonginamba.

Police have urged anyone with information to contact Detective Sergeant Thembikile Matwa on 082 522 2709 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111. Calls can be made anonymously.
