School transfer applications for 2026 close on Monday, 18 August

Published on

Parents and caregivers hoping to transfer their children to new schools in 2026 have just days left to submit applications.

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) confirmed that the transfer window,  which opened on 4 August for Grades 2 to 7 and Grades 9 to 12, will close at midnight on Monday, 18 August 2025.

Since the process began, more than 15,000 applications have been submitted for these grades.

The WCED is urging parents not to leave it until the last minute, warning that late applications may not be considered in time.

To complete the application, parents will need:

  • The learner’s most recent school report card
  • Identification documents (ID, birth certificate, passport, study permit, proof of application, or a police affidavit)
  • Proof of address, or a police affidavit if unavailable

Applications can be completed online at westerncape.gov.za/education, where further information is also available.

The WCED has stressed the importance of applying before the deadline to secure a place for learners at their preferred schools in 2026.
