The Parow Regional Court has handed down an effective life sentence to Bad Boys gang member Duran Lee Fourie for the murders of three men in Uitsig in 2023.

The court found Fourie guilty of the premeditated murders of Colin Simons, Hadley Williams and Jayden Jantjies, as well as illegal possession of a firearm.

On 26 September 2023, Fourie and two unidentified armed men ambushed the victims outside Mimosa Court, opening fire without warning.

Witnesses testified that Fourie chased the victims, shooting them at close range, and even took a gun from one of the deceased after they returned fire.

Although Fourie claimed he was elsewhere at the time, the court dismissed his alibi as false after cross-examination revealed contradictions. Ballistic evidence linked the scene to three different firearms, matching witness accounts.

Prosecutor Earl Edward Koopman argued that the killings were gang-related and carried out in common purpose with Fourie’s accomplices.

The court ruled that no substantial or compelling circumstances existed to justify a lesser sentence, noting the severity of the crimes and the loss suffered by the victims’ families.

Fourie received life imprisonment on each murder count, plus four years for illegal gun possession, to run concurrently.

Western Cape Director of Public Prosecutions, Adv. Nicolette Bell, praised the prosecution team and witnesses for ensuring justice, urging communities to work with police to root out gang violence.
