Car crashes onto railway tracks at Sunny Cove Station, Fish Hoek

Published on

An unusual accident disrupted commuter travel in Fish Hoek on Wednesday morning after a car landed on the railway tracks at the Sunny Cove Train Station. Fish Hoek police have confirmed that, fortunately, no injuries were reported.

According to police, officers arrived at the scene of the incident at about 9:00. Officers arriving at the scene found a vehicle lying on its side on the railway line that runs parallel to the False Bay coast.

According to Police Sergeant Wesley Twigg, officers completed an official accident report on site. Twigg, however, added that no criminal case has been opened for investigation at this stage.

Details regarding how the car ended up on the tracks remain unclear, and police have not yet released further information.

The accident caused temporary delays on Metrorail’s Southern Line service. Metrorail Western Cape confirmed that the train travelling from Simon’s Town to Fish Hoek was brought to a standstill as a safety precaution while authorities worked to clear the tracks.
