Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the brutal murder of a seven-year-old girl whose body was discovered early Wednesday morning, 23 July, in Nambuzane Street, Kuyasa, Khayelitsha.
The child was reported missing on Tuesday night, 22 July.
Her disappearance sparked concern among residents, many of whom joined in the overnight search. She was last seen playing with a child at a nearby house in Sindwadwa Street.
On Wednesday morning, members of an integrated SAPS team—comprising Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, Harare detectives, the K9 Dog Unit, Public Order Police, and Crime Intelligence—launched a murder investigation.
A biological sniffer dog led officers directly to the property in Sindwadwa Street where the child was last seen.
Once inside, the dog reacted to blood traces found on a mop and floor, evidence that investigators believe links the house to the child’s death.
Police arrested an adult man and woman at the scene. Both suspects are expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 25 July.
The incident has shocked the local community, with residents describing the scene as deeply distressing. Police have urged anyone with additional information to come forward.
