Team WC brings home gold – again! The Western Cape has once again proven its sporting excellence by being crowned overall champions at the 2025 Winter National School Sport Championships. The competition wrapped up yesterday in Durban.

 

MEC Ricardo Mackenzie said, “Every participant made the choice to show up, commit and give their best – and it paid off!”

 

Team WC brings home gold – again!

 

Team Western Cape delivered a powerhouse performance, clinching gold medals in both U/15 rugby (boys and girls) and netball (Mild Intellectual Disability category). The winning streak continued with bronze medals in girls’ and boys’ football as well as deaf netball.

 

Education MEC, David Maynier, said, “The future of sport in our province is bright – watch this space!”

Western Cape Crowned Champions at 2025 Winter National School Sport Championships

 

To top it off, the team’s dedicated support crew was honoured with the Best Administration Award. The Western Cape Cultural Affairs and Sport MEC, Ricardo Mackenzie, has applauded the team’s success. He says the Province is incredibly proud of our athletes who once again rose to the occasion. He says their hard work and determination ensured that they successfully defended their gold title.

MEC Mackenzie’s counterpart in Education, David Maynier, echoed his sentiment, highlighting the province’s winning momentum. Maynier says this victory follows their earlier success at the SASA Primary Schools Athletics Championships, where they showed that Western Cape school sport is going from strength to strength. He has congratulated our young champions, as well as their families and coaches.

 

Bringing home the medals

 

Team Western Cape is set to return to Cape Town today, 15 July 2025. They bring home not just medals but pride and inspiration for the entire province.
