Outcomes of grades R, 1 & 8 applications available from 30 May

Parents and caregivers, who have applied for a spot at a Western Cape school for grades R, 1 or 8, will find out where their child will be attending school on Friday. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has advised that the application outcomes for the 2026 school year will be made available on its official admissions system.

This applies to those who applied during the on-time admission window earlier this year.

Successful applicants will receive offers from the school at which they applied, and have been encouraged to reply by accepting or declining the offer by 17 June. Provincial Education MEC, David Maynier, said parents who have received multiple offers must make a decision as quickly as possible.

“These parents are essentially ‘double parking’ on the system, which prevents schools from offering these places to other applicants until they make their choice,” said Maynier.

To streamline the process, the department has implemented an automatic selection mechanism if a decision on the offers is not made by the deadline.

“If a parent has not confirmed their choice by 17 June 2025, the system will automatically confirm their top-ranked choice of school that has made an offer. All other offers will then be removed.”

At the same time, Maynier said there is still hope for those who do not receive an offer on Friday. Maynier advised that offers can still be made.

“Thousands of additional offers can be made to parents who were not successful initially, as other parents confirm their choices and free up spaces.”

The department assured concerned families that they will do what they can to ensure that learners get their seats at a school.

“We understand that this is a stressful time for parents, and we will work hard to ensure that every learner whose parents applied on time is placed as quickly as possible.”

The WCED encourages all applicants to monitor the online system closely.
