Upgrades to Tafelberg Road have been concluded ahead of the winter rains. So says the City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas, who recently, together with the local ward councillor for Ward 77, Francine Higham, visited the recently completed Tafelberg Road rehabilitation project. He says Tafelberg Road provides access to the popular Table Mountain National Park and the Table Mountain aerial cableway.

The upgrades along Tafelberg Road include the following:

· Restoration and upgrade of the road

· Rehabilitation of parking facilities

· Rehabilitation of stormwater infrastructure

· Building a sidewalk along the 1,3 km section of road to improve pedestrian safety

· Restoration of embankment retaining structures to protect the infrastructure against mudslides and severe weather events

Major Road Upgrade Completed Ahead of Rainy Season

The City of Cape Town has announced the completion of a significant road infrastructure project, which took approximately 18 months to finish. The timing is perfect, as the work was completed just before the onset of the rainy season.

Enhanced Infrastructure and Road Safety Features

According to the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas, the project goes beyond simple resurfacing.

“Not only was this road resurfaced, but there were also major infrastructure upgrades,” said Quintas.

Quintas expressed gratitude to road users, residents, and visitors for their patience and support throughout the project.

Safer Pedestrian Access from Kloof Nek to the Cableway

Councillor Francine Higham highlighted the project’s benefits for pedestrians:

“I encourage our residents and visitors to do this walk and appreciate the amazing work that has been done here.”

The newly upgraded path offers safe and continuous pedestrian access all the way from Kloof Nek Road to the Table Mountain Cableway, making it easier and safer for both locals and tourists to enjoy this iconic route.
