SA arts fraternity mourns loss of veteran actor Don Mlangeni Nawa

Published on

Sport, Arts and Culture minister Gayton McKenzie has expressed his condolences after the passing of veteran actor Don Mlangeni Nawa.

Nawa is best known for his roles in ‘Sgudi ‘Snaysi, The Throne and Isidingo, where he played the role of Zebedee Matabane. He portrayed the character for more than a decade.

McKenzie has described the late husband and father of five as a man of immense talent with humble beginnings in theatre before rising to national stardom.

“His story is one of perseverance, passion and purpose. He didn’t just act, he inspired. He didn’t just perform, he transformed. South Africa has lost more than an actor. We’ve lost a piece of our cultural soul. Rest in peace, Don Mlangeni-Nawa. You’ve played your part, and you played it to perfection,” said McKenzie.
