Joslin Smith trial: Accused Kelly Smith apparently said that Joslin made her famous

The high-profile trial into the disappearance of Joslin Smith has taken yet another shocking turn. Little Joslin was reported missing in February last year.

The missing six-year-old’s mother, Kelly Smith, along with her two co-accused are standing trial for alleged kidnapping and human trafficking. This morning, the court in Saldanha Bay heard from the state’s third witness, the local police station commander Lyndon Sebola.

‘CONCERNING TO HEAR’

While taking the stand, he gave his version of events of 1 March 2024, when multiple law enforcement agencies searched for the missing child. Clothed in a grey checked blazer and a pink shirt, he said Smith was at the police station to provide more details to the investigating officer, when she made an alarming utterance.

“Although I am not an expert, she was acting like it is normal for her that the child is not there. What worried me is that she indicated that the child has made her famous, which is concerning to hear from a parent,” Sebola told the court.

Earlier this week, the first two police witnesses in the trial, Constable Yanga Gongotha and officer Luzuko Kobese also made mention of how indifferent Smith appeared to the vanishing of her daughter.

‘ANGRY COMMUNITY MEMBERS HURL INSULTS’

Today’s testimony was followed by an in-loco inspection at Smith’s Middelpos shack, where community members hurled insults, reducing her to tears.
