Former Cape Town Mayor Patricia Fine has died. Her current counterpart, Geordin Hill-Lewis, has expressed the City’s condolences on her passing. He says she was a trailblazer in the City Council and the Chamber of Commerce.

Hill-Lewis has conveyed the City’s deep condolences to friends and family of former Mayor Patricia Fine, who passed this weekend following a courageous battle with cancer. He says her tenure coincided with South Africa’s transition to democracy.

He added, “She will be remembered for working tirelessly to bridge political divides during a pivotal time in South Africa’s history.”

The City’s Media Office says Former Mayor Fine was elected to the position in late 1993 and she served until the first local government elections of the democratic era in 1995.

 

Hill-Lewis elaborated, “She was a trailblazer in both City Council and the Chamber of Commerce.”

 

The former Mayor worked tirelessly to bridge political divides

 

 

Hill-Lewis says her tenure as mayor coincided with South Africa’s transition to democracy, including the April 1994 general elections that brought the end of apartheid. Mayor Hill-Lewis concluded with, “May her soul rest in peace.”
