Cape Town audiences are the first to experience a bold, reimagined production of Dear Evan Hansen, the Tony Award-winning musical that has captivated theatregoers worldwide.

Combining stellar local talent with innovative multimedia set design and a live nine-piece band, this South African premiere is a must-see event for musical theatre fans.

Running at Cape Town’s Artscape Theatre until March 9, before transferring to Montecasino’s Teatro in Johannesburg from March 15 to April 13, the show promises an emotionally powerful experience.

Featuring unforgettable songs like Waving Through a Window and You Will Be Found, Dear Evan Hansen is a deeply personal and contemporary exploration of connection, identity, and the human need to belong.

The South African production, presented by Showtime Management and How Now Brown Cow Productions, boasts an all-local creative team and cast. Stuart Brown steps into the title role, following in the footsteps of Broadway icons like Ben Platt and Sam Tutty.

He is joined by acclaimed theatre stars Lucy Tops as Heidi Hansen, Sharon Spiegel Wagner as Cynthia Murphy, and Charlie Bouguenon as Larry Murphy. Rising star Keely Crocker makes her professional debut as Zoe Murphy, while Michael Stray portrays Connor Murphy.

The show’s creative vision is brought to life by director Greg Karvellas, with musical supervision by Charl-Johan Lingenfelder and set, lighting, and costume design by Niall Griffin. Technical director Alistair Kilbee and choreographer Louisa Talbot round out the top-tier production team.

“It’s been an incredible journey bringing this non-replica version of Dear Evan Hansen to South Africa,” says Hazel Feldman of Showtime Management.

“The way our cast and crew have come together proves that we are delivering a truly world-class production.”

Julie-Anne McDowell and Daniel Galloway of How Now Brown Cow Productions add: “South African audiences will find this story deeply relatable. It’s a moving and powerful exploration of authenticity, courage, and community.”

With limited performances in Cape Town before heading to Johannesburg, tickets are in high demand. Secure your seats now via Showtime, How Now Brown Cow, or Ticketmaster.
