Have a pet be your Valentine. That’s the call of the Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha with February being the Month of Love. The Animal Clinic has launched its #BeMyValentine campaign. This will see dogs being put up for adoption, as they look for sponsorship to make their Valentine’s Day, a happy one.

The Clinic’sΒ Fundraising and Communications Executive, Marcelle du Plessis says Valentine’s Day has become an extremely commercialised event with people spending large amounts of money on gifts, chocolates and flowers.

β€œThe dogs up for adoption have been at our clinic’s shelter facility for weeks or months. Some have gone through a lot in their lives and need extra love,” says du Plessis.

She says they are this year encouraging people to allow a homeless pet to be their Valentine by sponsoring them and showing them some love. You don’t have to feel out of love this Valentine’s month. You can go to the Clinic’s social media channels to meet their tail-wagging bachelors and sassy bachelorettes which you can sponsor.

Share your Love during #BeMyValentine

The Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha is encouraging members of the public to show some love to homeless pets in need. Donations made to your chosen Valentine’s dog will help the organisation to care for them until they can find permanent homes. She says you can also sponsor a pet in their name if you have a human Valentine. Their staff will send your loved one, a special e-card to inform them of this. You can send your name, Valentine’s name and email address, the pet you have sponsored and donation proof to donations@mdzananda.co.za.

Du Plessis says there are a variety of sponsoring options. Some of the options are listed below.

  • R50 – Get rid of those nasty fleas and ticks – we want cuddles instead
  • R100 – Have your Valentine vaccinated to keep them healthy and strong
  • R200 – Spoil your Love with delicious food for two weeks
  • R450 – Give your valentine great meals for a whole month
  • R650 – Spay or neuter your Valentine – love is enough, no babies needed
