Significant increases in the price of fuel will kick in at midnight tonight, raising the high cost of living even further.

This month’s fuel price hike, the fourth consecutive one, and the second for the year, will see the cost of both grades of petrol climbing to 82 cents per litre more, while diesel’s cost will go up by between R1.01 and R1.05 cents per litre.

To put this into context, the price of 95 octane petrol will from tomorow, set you back by R21.62 cents in coastal regions, while 93 octane will climb to R22.16. The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy’s spokesperson, Robert Maake shared more of the figures on Tuesday morning.

“Illuminating paraffin will increase by R1.29 cents a litre at retail level and LP gas will increase by 42 cents per kilogram,” said Maake.

Furthermore, Maake explained what the main drivers for the price escalation are.

“The reason for this fuel price adjustments are the higher oil prices and weaker rand against the US dollar during the period under review,” added Maake.
