A female police officer who runs 2 soup kitchens in Cape Town and helps to rebuild homes have been crowned the SAPS’ Woman of the Year. Lieutenant-Colonel Sheila Mateza, based in Nyanga, walked away with the top award in her category at the National Police Excellence Awards held in Durban over the past weekend.

The province boasts another 2 national winners. The Police’s Sportsperson with a disability is AC Africa from the Mfuleni Police Station.

The other national title reaped is that of Reservist of the Year with the winner being NF Luiters from the Pacaltsdorp Police Station.

“It is wonderful to know that we have SAPS members of this calibre in our province,” said MEC Marais.

Meanwhile, the Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety Anroux Marais congratulated these and other South African Police Service (SAPS) members in the Province, who shined bright at the National Police Awards.

Operations member levels 5 to 7: KJD Louw (Maitland Flying Squad)

Detective Service Team: Anti-Gang Unit

Detective Services employee levels 5 to 7: N Maqkaza (Mfuleni)

Community Policing Forum of the Year: Montagu

MEC Marais says she is very proud of these winners. She has praised their dedication to their profession calling it commendable. She added that their hard work has paid off. Marais says it’s wonderful that the Province has SAPS members of this calibre in our province.

“I am very proud of these winners,” said MEC Marais.
